February 13, 2017


PRESENT:  Sue Campbell, Diane Blackwell, Ann Griffith, Stephanie Lyon-Gould, Dot McAndrew, Gary Weed, Ruth Young, Diana Seckla

ABSENT:  Mary Miles, Jeri Baker, Johnny Cody, Doris Johnson

CALL TO ORDER:  Sue Campbell at 1:00

SECRETARY’S REPORT:  Diana Seckla noted a correction under Absent.  She was present at the January Meeting.  Report accepted with correction.  First by Diane Blackwell, Seconded by Gary Weed.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  None.  Stephanie Lyon-Gould stated that regular deposits and withdrawals are being made.  She is working on preparing the report with Doris Hungerford and should be available at the next meeting.

COMMUNICATIONS:  Sue Campbell read thank you letters from two of Vi Gerber’s children.  Sue Campbell handed out the “Guide for Boards, Commissions and Committees” forwarded to the Senior Center by Bonnie Reemsnyder.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Special Events:  Stephanie Lyon-Gould, All of the Concerts are set except still awaiting a reply from the 102nd Army Band.  July 6th will feature “Eight to the Bar” and the Lions Club will provide picnic food.  July 13th the “Cartells” will perform and the Lions Club will provide picnic food.  On July 20th the “Boogie Boys” will provide sounds from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.  July 27th will feature “String of Pearls” and August 3rd the Army band (should they agree to the date).  The Republican Town Committee has agreed to sponsor the ice cream socials on July 27 and August 3rd.

Director’s Notes:  Stephanie Lyon-Gould, The “Day” newspaper published an article on the Senior Center and produced a video of the Tap Dancing Class which is currently on their website.  The Tap Dancing Classes are very popular and a third class is being added.  
Lisa Nevara of Senior Bridge will be starting a Women’s Support Group in March.
A 55” flat screen TV has been donated to the Senior Center.  www.ct.org, the website for 9 towns Senior Centers, has released the recent “page views”.  The Lyme Senior Center has 2 out of the 3 top “page views”and 160 out of 706 total “page views”.

Building Use:  Diane Blackwell stated that the Center will be used for a 50th Birthday Party and also for a meeting of the Lyme Land Trust.

Property:  Gary Weed stated all is fine.  Stephanie Lyon-Gould, The air conditioners are being replaced hopefully the last two weeks in April.  Phil, in charge of facilities, is coordinating and the impact on the daily activities at the Center should be minimal.
A new toilet has been installed in the handicap stall of the Ladies Room.  

OLD BUSINESS:

Coffee Bar Update:  Diane Blackwell - Gary Weed made,  and Ann Griffith seconded a motion that Diane Blackwell research locks and racks for containers for the new coffee bar.  It was mentioned that one or more of the existing coffee pots are leaking.  Stephanie Lyons-Gould suggested that three new coffee pots should be purchased.  Diane Blackwell indicated she has access to a restaurant supply store in Orange.
It was decided that the plaque commemorating the new coffee bar should read:  “Vi’s Coffee Corner”  “Donated in memory of Viola Gerber by her children”.   The 12’ x 16” plaque will be installed over the coffee bar in place of the current bulletin board which will be relocated within the room.  Gary Weed and Lou will move the bulletin board.  Stephanie Lyon-Gould will order the plaque and advise a completion date.  The family will be asked to select a date for the dedication as they live out of state.  
Diane Blackwell stated that Greg Simonds and Bill Archer did considerable work installing the cabinetry.  It was decided that she send them a letter of thanks and also invite them to the dedication.  

Flatware Update:  There is no need to purchase new flatware because the existing flatware was located in a filing cabinet.  

Suggested new Board member to represent Old Lyme:  Stephanie Lyon-Gould indicated that current Board member, Nancy Campbell, needs to send her formal resignation.  Until then, it would be inappropriate to ask potential prospects.  Two names were put forth for consideration.

Old Business from Floor:  Diane Blackwell, The Freedom of Information Act requires posting of the schedule of annual Board meetings and the agenda for  the upcoming meeting.  Sue Campbell suggested that the Friends of the Center meetings should also be posted.  Diane Blackwell will do research on the price of a bulletin board to display postings.

NEW BUSINESS:

Treasurer appreciation:  Sue Campbell tabled until the next meeting.

Volunteer of the Year - hanging of plaque:  Diane Blackwell suggested that most of the plaques should be hung on one wall.  Gary Weed put forth a name and motion for the Volunteer of the year.  Ann Griffith seconded the motion.
